Under the Ash: A Helicopter Pilot’s Photo Journal of Search, Rescue, and Recovery Efforts in the Aftermath of the 1980 Mount St. Helens Eruption – Capt. Michael D. Cairns

This is a most powerful book as the photography is amazing, and Michael’s stories about the rescue work that occurred afterwards, the devastation seen, the tremendous effect it had on the State of Washington is something to be aware of. Mount St. Helens is still very much alive and percolating.
