Race, neocolonialism, and the hijab. Muslim women who wear the hijab, regardless of their color or ethnicity, are often viewed as outsiders. They are feared by those who don’t understand why they have chosen to wear this type of headdress. Nuns wear some similar headdress, Jewish Orthodox women wear wigs or headscarves, as do many women of different faiths. This discussion will be a unique one, as biases are often not easy to view without changing the lenses we look through.
